YEAR HISTORICAL EVENT AT SAINT NICHOLAS
1862 Saint Nicholas Parish was established and founded with a list of contributors of 205 German and Luxembourger families who wanted to have church services conducted in their own language.
Rev. J. Mueller, C. S. S. R., was the first parish priest until 1863.
1863 Rev. J. Westkamp was the 1st resident priest until 1865. At this time a small parochial school was built with two classrooms, and a modest rectory.
1865 Rev. H. Liermann was the 2nd resident priest, and due to healthy reasons resigned as priest in 1880.
1880 Rev. C. Schnueckel, became the 3rd resident priest, and was so until the day of his death in 1908. At this time the Saint Nicholas Parish experienced an uninterrupted progress and ending by 1887 (recognized as a historic landmark in Aurora IL).
1900 The convent was purchased and the parish hall was built to complete all the parish buildings. All these structures became to be the finest of the kind in the city.
1908 Rev. P. J. Weber was appointed the 4th priest after Father Schnueckel's death.
1913 The Golden Jubilee of the Parish was celebrated with a week of various activities.
1923 Rt. Rev. Msgr. M. A. Schumacher was appointed the 5th priest.
1941 At this time the entire Parish interior was remodeled.
1944 The parish hall was renovated and a bowling alley provided.
1955 At this time the new school was built.
1966 Rt. Rev. Msgr. Schumacher retired as priest after serving for 43 years. Rev. R. Steward was appointed the 6th priest until 1973.
1973 Very Rev. S. J. Eye was the 7th priest until his retirement. Rev. P. Reily was appointed the 8th priest until his death in 1990.
Centro Cristo Rey was founded to serve Hispanic Catholics in Aurora, housed in the convent.
1990 Sister Joanne Wolsfelt, O. S. F. was appointed as Pastoral Coordinator.
1992 Sister Mary Gallagher, a Bilingual Sister of Mercy, served both the Anglo and Hispanic Communities.
1996 Bishop Thomas Doran appointed Rev. D. R. Engbarth the 9th priest.
2005 Bishop Thomas Doran appointed Msgr. A. Vallejo Parochial Administrator.
2006 Rev. O. Cortes was assigned Parochial Administrator until 2008.
2008 Rev. A. Salinas is appointed as Parochial Administrator.
2009 Saint Nicholas Catholic Church has its site on the Internet with the only purpose to share our faith through this media and keeping us together as a truly family.
  2010 Reverend Andres Salinas is appointed to be Pastor of St. Nicholas effective September 1, 2010 by Bishop Thomas Doran.
